Michael Sheen, a Hollywood actor born in Port Talbot, reportedly wiped off hundreds of people’s personal debts.
The Welsh actor, who recently appeared as Prince Andrew in the Amazon Prime comedy A Very Royal Scandal, is now
attempting to contact those he has assisted. Outside of acting, Sheen is known to be involved in several
charitable organisations, including being a UNICEF UK ambassador since 2014, selling his houses to ensure the 2019
Homeless World Cup took place in Cardiff, and pledging £50,000 over five years to fund a bursary to help Welsh
students attend Oxford University. Full Fat Television has revealed that the actor has been advocating for a more
equitable credit system for years. They said that the actor made a “extraordinary gesture”.
In a Facebook post shared by Full Fat Television, they said: “Actor Michael Sheen has been campaigning for a fairer
credit system for years and in an extraordinary gesture, he has used his own money to write off personal debts for hundreds of people in South Wales.
If you have received a letter from a company called Ten Acquisitions the good news is that Michael has paid off
some of your debt and he’d love to hear from you. The details of how to get in touch with him are in the letter.”
“Anyone can find themselves in a place where they need credit to make ends meet or to get through a difficult time,” the actor remarked Monday while speaking at an event in Parliament.
Individuals and families, as well as businesses and communities, are being negatively impacted by the absence of accessible financing for those with lower incomes.
“The expansion of entire regions is being slowed down. We cannot continue to hold out hope that things will improve. Something has to change right now. Perhaps the factor that truly makes a difference is the Fair Banking Act.
