As Rangers prepare for tonight’s crucial match against Aberdeen, Kris Boyd thinks “it wouldn’t be a surprise” if Aberdeen win at Pittodrie.
The analyst and former Rangers striker lamented the club’s inability to provide convincing performances this season,
which has seen them drop eight points in their first nine games and struggle to beat teams like St Mirren. Philippe
Clement’s team will try to gain ground on Celtic and Aberdeen in the title battle tonight; a win at Pittodrie would reduce the Dons’ lead to three points.
Speaking to Sky Sports this afternoon, Boyd stated he wouldn’t be surprised if Jimmy Thelin’s team won.
They’ve begun the season off brightly, particularly at home. Rangers have struggled on the road; I believe they have only scored one goal away from home,
and they will need to find a way to reverse that tonight if they are to get the three points. “It hasn’t been good enough for Rangers, but tonight provides them the opportunity to turn a corner and see where it takes them,
because I don’t think they’ll catch Celtic this season. “But it’s one thing for Rangers fans to support Celtic, but if they’re also supporting Aberdeen, it doesn’t make for interesting reading.
He went on: “Looking at Rangers right now, everything’s kind of huff and puff. They are never truly in control of a game. They clearly beat St Mirren over the weekend, but Rangers should easily win such types of games at home.
“Everything’s a fight right now, and they’re going to need it tonight because one thing is certain: Aberdeen will be up for it, and they will make it extremely difficult for Rangers, as they always do when Rangers visit Pittodrie.
“Aberdeen have been completely transformed under Jimmy Thelin, and what Rangers team will show up tonight? “We do not know.” He added: “It wouldn’t be a surprise if Aberdeen won tonight because of the way they’ve been performing.
