The NBA fined the Cleveland Cavaliers a hefty $250,000 for violating the league’s player participation regulation. The team rested All-Star guard Darius Garland during a nationally broadcast game against the Toronto Raptors on November 24.
This resulted in the suspension. This is the Cavaliers’ second penalty for a similar infraction this season. They were earlier fined $100,000 on November 18 for resting Evan Mobley and Donovan Mitchell during a game against the Miami Heat on November 12.
He played against the LA Clippers on November 23, but he missed the game in Toronto the next night, which was televised nationally in the US and Canada. Garland is categorized by policy as a “star player.”
De’Andre Hunter, who was rested, and Jarrett Allen, who was sidelined due to a sprained finger, were also absent from Cleveland’s game.
The Cavaliers have played four games, including an NBA Cup game, since facing the Raptors without Garland last month. They have lost three of their last four games due to their current struggles.
Cleveland has lost against the Portland Trail Blazers, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Boston Celtics, although they did win over the Indiana Pacers.
