Great news! Chris Dury confirms Rangers’ interest in signing any of these three top centermen available at the same price range. Which of them would you prefer to see enter the Madison Square Garden?

As the early part of free agency comes to a close, the New York Rangers appear to be reuniting with their core, excluding Barclay Goodrow. In addition, general manager and president Chris Drury opted to sign Reilly Smith, which should put an end to the revolving door of right-wingers who have played alongside Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider in recent years. They are undoubtedly a better squad as a result, but one area in particular has remained relatively unchanged: the defense corps. Since the Rangers returned to the playoffs in 2022, five players have remained in the rotation: Adam Fox, Ryan Lindgren, Jacob Trouba, K’Andre Miller, and Braden Schneider.

More Zac Jones & Miller

The Rangers’ two most common partnerships over the last three seasons were Fox-Lindgren and Miller-Trouba. Last season, Lindgren struggled greatly. While playing the sixth-most minutes among Rangers players in 2023-2024, the Minnesota native had an expected goals-for (xGF) percentage of 45.02 percent, the lowest among defensemen on the team who appeared in at least 60 games, according to Natural Stat Trick. That is not to imply the Rangers should transfer the restricted free agent (RFA), but it may be time to separate him from Fox. No other defensive pairing in the NHL has played the most minutes together over the last three seasons, therefore it’s time to consider a change.
