Tanner Scott is the best match for the Yankees at the trade deadline.

The New York Yankees plan to improve their bullpen at the trade deadline. The Yankees have had terrific success with Clay Holmes and Luke Weaver, but they may be looking for another arm. ESPN’s Jess Passan called Tanner Scott of the Miami Marlins the Yankees’ “best match” at the trade deadline. The Marlins are 27-51 and have several players who should be traded. Scott, Josh Bell, Jesús Luzardo, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. could potentially be traded. “He could be a dominant left-handed reliever for a team that lacks one, and while his walks this season are concerning, the Marlins’ 29-year-old closer has worked around them to the tune of a 1.64 ERA,” Passan wrote.

Passan listed several trade candidates for the Yankees, but also noted that they may be impractical. Scott satisfies a need for the Yankees and is a viable candidate for the trade deadline. “This may not be what Yankees fans want to hear, but the major moves don’t seem to make much sense. A deal for Guerrero would be enjoyable. Similarly, Pete Alonso crosses the Triborough Bridge. Likewise, obtaining uber-reliever Mason Miller from Oakland. “All are long shots for various reasons,” Passan wrote. Guerrero has publicly stated that he never wants to play for the Yankees, and Toronto despises the idea of seeing him in division games for another year. Alonso heading crosstown—even months before he hits free agency—would require an exorbitant return to alleviate the pain of intentionally sending a franchise legend to an in-town competitor. Miller’s purchase cost is exorbitant.
