In order to change up the roster and increase the team’s chances of winning the Stanley Cup this year, general manager Chris Drury and the New York Rangers wanted to take risks this offseason. Barclay Goodrow was first waived, then the San Jose Sharks claimed him. The greatest deal they had hoped to make, moving captain Jacob Trouba and his $8 million salary, has not, however, been accomplished. A lot of people were saying during the draft that Trouba will be traded to the Detroit Red Wings, where he grew up. But the deal never happened, and as of right now, he remains the Rangers’ captain and is probably going to stay with the team come opening night. Should he be dealt, the Rangers will have traded their third consecutive captain.
