New York Rangers keen on acquiring former Maple Leafs defenseman despite high bid!

After finishing his contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, veteran free agent defenseman Mark Giordano has been connected to the New York Rangers. Giordano completed his two-year, $1.6 million contract with the Maple Leafs and became a free agent on July 1 at the age of 40. Despite being the oldest player in the NHL last season, Giordano is still expecting to play, and NHLTradeRumors.com’s Michael DeRosa has linked the veteran defenseman to the Rangers.

“The New York Rangers could take a chance on Giordano. Looking at their left side, it’s evident that Giordano could contend for a slot in their bottom pairing if signed. Furthermore, he would provide them with another veteran with excellent leadership abilities, which would undoubtedly be beneficial.

At 40, Giordano would be the Rangers’ sixth or seventh defenseman. He would also be inexpensive, as he would most likely sign a league minimum contract and could provide some senior leadership to a New York club aiming to advance in the playoffs. Giordano has three goals and six assists for a total of nine points in 46 games for Toronto last season. He did not participate in a postseason game owing to an injury.

Giordano, a former Maple Leaf, wants to play on.

Giordano’s future was uncertain following the Maple Leafs’ elimination by the Boston Bruins in the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Giordano joined the Calgary Flames during the 2005–06 season, his first season in the NHL. Giordano has played in 1,148 games in his career, although he is 40 years old, and his agent Rich Winter has indicated that his client intends to play next season. According to Winter, Mark has decided to continue playing for a few more years, the Toronto Star said. “He exudes a great sense of confidence. Many of the people he’s spoken to advise him to “keep going until they force you to.” It’s obvious he wants to play.
