Red Bull confirm major change to Verstappen’s ‘toxic’ car. The vehicle almost cost a…

Max Verstappen sustained substantial damage to the floor of his Red Bull during qualifying for the British Grand Prix. Max Verstappen’s Red Bull will run with a new floor for the British Grand Prix after it incurred significant damage during qualifying at Silverstone. Verstappen will start fourth on the grid, trailing an all-British top three of George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris, which had the majority of the circuit’s spectators on their feet in delight. The three-time F1 champion finished four-tenths of a second behind Russell, with the gap most likely caused by floor damage sustained after running on gravel coming out of Copse.

Minutes earlier, in wet-to-dry conditions, teammate Sergio Perez experienced a moment of oversteer on the approach to Copse, forcing him into the run-off area, where he fell off and beached his RB20 in the gravel. Verstappen experienced the similar problem, but the Dutch driver kept the throttle down through the run-off and over the gravel before returning to the track. However, it came at a cost, as the floor damage hampered his performance for the rest of a qualifying session dominated by the three British drivers. It is unclear whether Verstappen could have challenged the trio without the floor damage, but at least for the race, he will be working on a level playing field again with a new floor.
