Shocking : As tulsa Oilers Re-Sign Forward Josh Nelson

The Tulsa Oilers have announced the re-signing of forward Josh Nelson for the 2024-25 ECHL season. Nelson, a native of Lockport, Illinois, brings a wealth of experience to the team, having played in various leagues and levels throughout his career.

 

Nelson’s junior career began in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the London Knights in the 2016-17 season. Over four seasons with the Knights, he played in 206 games, scoring 33 goals and adding 37 assists for 70 points.

He also accumulated 30 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of -3. In the 2019-20 season, Nelson played 28 games for the Barrie Colts in the OHL, where he had 12 goals and ten assists for 22 points. He had two penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of 0.

 

Nelson also gained valuable playoff experience with the London Knights, playing in 15 postseason games over two seasons. He scored three points with two goals and one assist, while accumulating four penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of -1.

 

After his junior career, Nelson attended St. Francis Xavier University for his collegiate career. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020-21 season was postponed, and Nelson only appeared in three games.

However, over his four seasons at St. Francis Xavier, he played in 87 games, scoring 32 goals and adding 36 assists for 68 points. He had 32 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of -13.

 

Nelson also played in the postseason with St. Francis Xavier throughout each of the three seasons in which games were held.

He appeared in 13 playoff games, scoring seven points with four goals and three assists. He had ten penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of -5.

 

Following the completion of his collegiate career, Nelson signed with the Tulsa Oilers in the ECHL to finish his 2023-24 season. He played in 16 games with the Oilers, scoring two goals and adding two assists for four points.

He had two penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of -7. Nelson also played in four playoff games with the Oilers, where he did not record any points or penalty minutes and had a plus/minus rating of -3.

 

The re-signing of Josh Nelson is a significant move for the Tulsa Oilers, as he brings a strong work ethic and scoring ability to the team.

His experience in various leagues and levels will be invaluable to the Oilers, and his ability to play in both regular season and playoff games will be crucial in the team’s quest for success in the 2024-25 season.
